You will be dearly missed Bjarne, but you could always return to costuming if it pleases you. I have no idea how to close down the blog, but you could always rename it and keep us updated on your wonderful embroidery.

It bothers me really badly, that i never mangaged to make that huge courtdress i had hoped for, but i could not give my husband the narrow space i would give him in our living room.
What bothers me most is the 20 yard silk brokade lying here, and the heavy crinoline steel, i shall not use......................
I hope in the future you will slow down your projekts, and start to make handsewing in stead

That is a shame, maybe you can hold on to the material and one day still make it?
I've only done a corset and a waist cincher in the whole year of 2010 (besides regular clothing for day to day wear), I do understand the reason why you feel the need to stop. I can also understand the bother of having unused fabric and steel and a project left unfinished. I have been selling some of my own fabrics, closed down my webshop and still have a lot of material left I hope to one day use and just couldn't part with. And you are right, handsewing is so much nicer, but somehow I'm always pressed for time and I stick to handsewing finishes and embroidery, I should really start taking my time. I wish you all the best, for you are an artist and a warm hearted and kind person!

I started reading about your work when I joined Hcost all that time ago, back when I was in college. (Ten years ago now!) You were one of the inspirations behind dressdiaries way back in the early days, and even when I left Hcost I followed your blog and your projects. Your work is incredible, detailed, rich, and portrait-perfect, and I was sorry to hear when you first left the reenactment scene, but I completely understand. I'm sorry to hear that you need even more of a break, but I respect your need for one. You've been an inspiration to so many people, simply by being here and posting things, and I wanted you to know how much I and others appreciate that.

Your blog (and website) has brought a lot of joy to many many people. For me, I have been inspired by your costumes, your embroidery and pictures from your outings with groups such as Gustav Skal. I know I am not alone. Do you think it would be possible to keep your blog alive (or start another) which concentrates on your embroidery without the costumes? I understand why you would want to stop the costumes. It seems in the last few months there have been a lot of frustrating situations (uninspiring fabrics, customers who change their mind a lot and then don't show for fittings). Lots of us have felt that way and needed to take a break. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself with us for so long. :)

Oh, and I want to share a story that I hope you will appreciate. My husband is not a costumer or anything like that. We are going on a trip to Amsterdam and Copenhagen at the end of April. My husband said to me, "Copenhagen? Isn't that where Bjarne lives?"

You are trualy a inspirational person. You are not just a costumer or embroiderer, you are an artist in textiles. I follow your work for at least 10 year or more, your website and then your blog too have brought authentic work and artistic work together and made inspiration for 100s of costumers and embroiderers all over the world. On a British reenactors group just this month a man said he always follows your blog because your work is so impressive. You have been helpful and generous with advice and encouragment to so many. Some bad customers take advantage of this and I see how heartbreaking it is for you to put in work that they are ungrateful for.

I been ill and your blog post I always look forward to for your beautiful workmanship. I hope though you open up another blog with all your wonderful embroidery in it. We would love to see your work. And we will miss you if you do not keep in touch.

I maybe wrong, but aren't you going to continue with embroidery though? I know many of us would still love to see that too. Or your lace work if you keep that going.

And LJ isn't just for showcasing work, its for whatever you want to write - or if you don't want to write then that's fine too.

You will be missed though.

Bjarne, this is indeed sad news to read. I've known you online for so long, from h-costume to here. I can also understand your costume burnout, as there have been times, even recently, when I've felt similarly.

Follow your passion and bliss, whatever you do. I hope to continue to follow your art, as you've inspired and instructed me in many areas, even tho our time periods are not the same.

Yes, I too vote with the many here on your site:
1. We would love to adore you from afar and ooooh/aaah over your beautiful embroidery work.
2. Blogging is a terrible animal as the expectation is that one must keep up with the posts. I for one, am NOT a very good blogger as large amounts of time go by before I post a new comment. It was too stressful for me to do it "all the time".
3. Glad to hear you are attempting to sort out your priorities. Husbands have a way of wanting to claim back floorspace in our homes. What are they thinking?
At least my own husband has been bitten by the Costuming Bug and he is busy designing & building hats, re-engineering and cutting out pattern pieces of garments for me to sew together when I come home from work. Not everyone is so lucky. I am. (wink)

One quick question of you, if you please. Once before, you suggested to me where to purchase 18th c men's shoes. You told me to buy Norwegian dance shoes and put a buckle on them. Maybe they were Scandinavian shoes? How do I find these?

I hope when you read this post, you will have come back from a relaxing, wooooooonderful vacation with your loved one. Time away from home can be very restorative. I know how mentally draining your job can be, so it is good to find center balance again!
